Champagne is generally 5 - 6 glasses per bottle as opposed to wine which is allocated at about just over 4 glasses per bottle. So for 50 people I would get about 10 bottles. Often if you grab 12 you can get a 10% discount at most wine retail places so I owul ddo that and keep the extra 2 for the upcoming holidays!

Not knowing exactly what the price range is my suggestion would be Moet Chandon Extra Dry which is available in the $30's. An American alternative that is highly rated and is processed in the French style is Gloria Ferrer. The grapes are hand crafted and has scored 90 pts in the Wine Spectator. My personal favorite Champagnes are: Veuve Clicquot ($40), Audoin de Dampierre (Brut at $56 + premiere cuvee $120) and the Ruinart Blanc de Blanc ($65).

In addition to the above suggestions I would suggest trying “Domain Chandon” – it is a Californian company and they have a lot of different fantastic sparkling wines such as dry, extra dry, blanc de noir, Etoile, etc. They are all in the $12-$40 range. Sometimes the real champagnes from the region of Champagne in France can be a little pricier so another thing I would recommend is to look to Italy and Spain, they have great “Prosecco” (sparkling from Italy) or “Cava” (sparkling wines from Spain). If you want to stay with France though Moet Chandon is a great suggestion.
